A Christmas Thought

While sitting here beneath our tree
And looking up so much I see,
The colored balls and blinking lights
So pretty is this Christmas sight.

The gifts all placed around the floor
Inside we know not what's in store,
Each one is wrapped in colors gay
To be undone on Christmas day.

The stereo does play so clear
The Christmas Carols I love to hear,
"O Little Town of Bethlehem"
"Silent Night" and all of them.

This time is not for Santa Claus
But for another sacred cause,
And with my head bowed in my hands
I wonder if God understands.

Suppose He came back here on Earth
To see how folks rejoice His birth,
Quite disappointed He would be
If first of all, He came to me.

And so He travels 'bout the town
Upon His head a worried frown,
At every home He takes a pause
For on most doors is Santa Claus.

He says: "They've all forgotten Me
Where have I failed? What can it be?"
Then in the distance loud and clear
A small child singing He can hear.

He listens close with all His might
To see if what He heard was right
With tears now streaming down His face
Toward Heavens Home He fast does race.

For what He heard from that small voice
He knew someone did still rejoice,
A little crippled child stood braced
And towards the sky her eyes were faced.

Her little hands placed 'neath her chin
With an angel smile she did begin,
Off key she sang as most kids do ...
"Happy Birthday Dear Jesus, Happy Birthday To You!!"
